Chelsea to make 20 million pounds.

By Jay

Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Liverpool last night spelled the end of Chelsea reign as the Champions of Europe, after the Spanish giants had knocked the Blues out of the competition themselves.

But Real Madrid’s triumph is not a total loss for Chelsea, as they will get to pocket 20 million pounds afterward.

Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth an initial 88.5 million pounds but could extend to 130 million pounds on performance-related terms.

Chelsea received 20 million pounds when Hazard won La Liga with Real Madrid in 2020 and they are set to receive another 20 million pounds now that he has won the Champions League with them.

All these are as a result of clauses that were inserted in his contract back then.

Hazard being a bit-part player in Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign doesn’t change the fact that they are European Champions. But they would have been happier to pay this money if he had been a crucial part of the team.

The Belgian has had a tough time at Real Madrid, as his struggle with Injury and fitness concerns is not allowing him to be the brilliant attacker he used to be.

He has just ended his third season with Real Madrid, but he only has 48 appearances and 4 goals to his name.
