Man Utd set to hijack Chelsea’s £26m deal for Croatian full back

Borna Sosa, a long-term Chelsea target, appears to be on his way out in the summer transfer window. According to Kicker, Erik ten Hag wants to make the Stuttgart defender his first Manchester United signing.

This season, the 24-year-old has made 27 appearances in the Bundesliga, assisting on nine goals from left wing-back. His strong performances, however, haven’t been enough to keep Stuttgart in the Bundesliga; the German club is currently third from bottom and seems poised to face a relegation play-off unless results go their way on the final day.

Despite this, the Croatian international is said to be courting Chelsea and Manchester United. According to Sky Sports Germany, Thomas Tuchel’s side fought Inter Milan for Sosa at the close of the January transfer window.

However, a deal for the £25.6 million-rated defender fell through. In comparison to positional counterparts, Sosa is listed as one of Europe’s top left-backs for his chance generation, progressive passing, ball-carrying, and shot-creating activities, according to Fbref.

Chelsea scouts have been keeping an eye on the Croatian this season to see how he is progressing.

The Blues are known for their extensive scouting network, so it’s only logical that representatives have kept an eye on the Bundesliga, which is rapidly becoming a hotbed for fascinating potential.

Sosa has become known for his crossing skills, with the defender comparing his style to that of David Beckham. Sven Mislintat, Stuttgart’s sporting director, agrees.

Last season, the transfer chief told Bild in an interview: “David Beckham is Borna Sosa’s role model, and I believe he possesses the same abilities. His left foot is a tremendous weapon, as he chips, drills, and flattens crosses from all angles; sometimes in front, sometimes behind, sometimes to the front post, sometimes to the back post.”

Sosa, on the other hand, is a left-footed left-back. Beckham, as we all know, is right-footed and used to play right-winger.
