NIN: FG Informs Telecom Operators To Follow Guidelines on Sim Replacement

The federal government has given new guidelines that telecommunication service subscribers should adhere to in changing damaged, mislaid, misplaced, or stolen SIM cards NIN

The new conditions for SIM replacement have been disclosed in a joint assertion by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Id Management Commission on Friday, 1st January. FG says telecom services shouldn’t defy the directions on SIM registration.

The new directive agreed that:

1. Subscribers must provide their National Identification Numbers (NIN) for his or her SIM cards to get replaced.

2. That an efficient verification of the NIN is carried out by NIMC.

3. That the proper guidelines and laws of NCC regarding  to SIM replacement are totally adhered to.

The agencies said that the new guideline was a part of the federal government’s efforts to scale back the burden on subscribers and simplify the exercise.

It stated: “It’s aimed toward enabling telecommunications service subscribers who want to replace their lost, damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish entry to telecom services.”

In a related information, the National Id Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced the procedures on how to retrieve NIN slip in case of loss and misplacement. This follows the latest Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC)’s mandate on the linking of the national ID card with the SIM card. In keeping with the information released by NIMC, Nigerians who misplaced their NIN sim ought to take the above steps.
